Great article, I do NOT want elite RINOs running the GOP, either. In my own experience as a candidate, when I tried to win the Republican Party nomination in Hawaii for US Senate in 1998. I had the tacit support of the Hawaii Republican party, and then I started attacking Senator Inouye on real issues, and they got nervous. Senator McCain as a friend of good old Danny, I heard called me an a**hole for attacking his friend with substance, I had a great time anyway. Despite coming in third in the Republican Primary, the first two former Democrats added to the ticket to make sure I did not “win”, and McCain etal was part of that effort. A badge of honor for me to be called an a**hole by the corrupt Senator from Arizona. Which we found odd, because my wife won her primary and went on against Rep Patsy Mink in the General Election for HI #2 that same year. As a prolife alternative to the abortion activist Patsy.
