Moderns start with the idea men and women are basically the same—we all are anti-creation equalizers from childhood basically. So we see the Bible as limiting the world’s preconceptions, rather than using it as the basis for God’s principles. The passages relating women to men are not all bound by the public/private distinction. It is not ok to be bossy and domineering in private, but quiet, modest, and polite in public. When I listened to the back and forth between Aimee, Todd, and Carl over at The Mortification of Spin, on the issue of women teaching men, I noticed something.
